The Kansas City Zoo
We must admit… we are incredibly biased. We like penguins and we like sea lions. The Kansas City Zoo is the only place in KC that has both… they are top on this list. Kansas City is absolutely spoiled when it comes to art. Not only does the Nelson-Atkins have some incredible exhibits, but it’s also completely FREE to attend! Bring your Scouts and enjoy a day the museum! The best part? You can do this activity regardless of weather!

The Steamboat Arabia Museum
Located in the River Market, this one-of-a-kind museum is a window into America’s frontier. In 1856 the Arabia and her treasures sunk on the Missouri river, later to be dug out of a Kansas cornfield. Your pack can see everything from fine China and carpentry tools to children’s toys and the world’s oldest pickles.

Shatto Milk Company
Milk every drop out of your summer and mooo-ve on up to Osborn, Missouri and experience Kansas City’s milk company. Get a tour of the processing plant, see the bottling process including how they prep bottles for re-use, milk a cow and meet some adorable calves.

Ernie Miller Park & Nature Center
If you say KC has nothing to do in the summer you can take a hike…literally. Located in Johnson County, the Ernie Miller Park & Nature Center is a perfect way to explore a diverse range of habitats such as tallgrass prairie, upland meadows, bottomland forest and a beautiful stream. You can also learn all about the animals you might see at the nature center.
