Meet Your Kauffman Distinguished Eagle Scouts

Scout Day at the K 2015

Baseball is back in Kansas City and this Sunday more than 14,500 Scouts will make their way to Kauffman Stadium for Scout Day at the K where the Kansas City Royals will take on the Oakland A’s in a rematch of last year’s Wild Card thriller. This year’s event is expected to set an attendance record - making it one of the largest Scouting events in the country!

But Scout Day at the K is more than just a baseball game, it also serves as an opportunity to recognize local Eagle Scouts. This weekend’s festivities will include the presentation of the Ewing M. Kauffman Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, an honor that recognizes adult Eagle Scouts for their positive contributions to the Kansas City community. This year’s recipients are…

John A. Dillingham is the President of Dillingham Enterprises, Inc and Jodill Corporation. He is a board member of the National WW1 Museum/Liberty Memorial, Metropolitan Community College Board Foundation, Freedom Frontier National Heritage Area, and Clay County Historical Millennium Board. He earned his Eagle Scout Award as well as six palms in 1955 in Troop 413.

John Holt co-anchors Fox 4 News and serves as an investigative and special projects reporter. In addition to being recognized with several Regional Emmys, he is active on the boards of Head for the Cure Foundation, KU Alumni Association, and is past board chairman of Friends of Johnson County Developmental Supports. John earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1973 as a member of Troop 120.

Lon Lane is founder and CEO of Lon Lane’s Inspired Occasions. He has served as past chairman and investment chairman of the International Caterers Association Educational Foundation, and has been recognized with the Gillis Center Kansas City Spirit Award in 2012 and 2014 and as Chef of the Year by the International Food and Wine Society. Lon earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1962 in Troop 54.

The Heart of America Council established the Ewing M. Kauffman Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in cooperation with the Kauffman Foundation in 2010. The award recognizes adult Eagle Scouts who have excelled in their careers and have provided exemplary service to their community within the Heart of America Council territory. Ewing M. Kauffman earned his Eagle badge in 1932 as a member of Boy Scout Troop and Ship 100 at Faxon School in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Kauffman was active in Scouting throughout his life.

This year’s Ewing M. Kauffman Distinguished Eagle Scout Awards will be presented on the field shortly before first-pitch at 1:10 pm. An additional presentation will also take place in the stadium’s outfield concourse area at approximately 11:00 am.
