2020 Camping Updates

Updated 6/22/2020

We truly appreciate your patience and allowing our council to thoroughly review every aspect of our summer camp operations over the last few months in order to make the most informed decision possible. We have been continually monitoring the situation caused by COVID-19 since the very beginning and have consulted with health experts, government officials and other camp professionals to evaluate whether to operate summer camp this year.

After careful consideration and an exhaustive review of our camp safety protocols, the Heart of America Council is preparing to resume camp operations beginning July 5.

2020 Abbreviated Summer Camp Schedule

It's important to remember that this situation continues to change daily, and as such, we will continue to review, adapt and adjust our protocols and procedures over the next 30 days and throughout the summer.

The health and safety of our Scouts, leaders and staff remains our number one priority. As a parent you have a choice and it's important that you understand the many precautions we are taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at our camps.

  • By delaying our summer sessions until July, we are able to adapt and adjust our protocols and procedures daily as we prepare for camp.
  • In addition to pre-camp and in-camp health screenings, we will be instituting daily temperature checks, rigorous check-in procedures, enhanced staff training and a rapid response protocol.
  • Camp attendance will also be much smaller as we are limiting capacity to allow for spacing requirements. This includes less Scouts in campsites, smaller class sizes and "Grab and Go Meals" instead of dining halls.

To help you make the most informed decision possible, we’ve consulted with and incorporated guidelines from federal, state, and local health officials, as well as the National BSA accreditation program, to create a comprehensive 13-Step COVID-19 Health and Safety Response Plan

Ultimately, the choice for your child to attend summer camp is a personal one, and you are in control. If you are uncomfortable with the risks of COVID-19 in a summer camp setting, we will gladly provide a full refund or hold your deposit for next summer.

We will be contacting each unit over the next few days to confirm your camp reservations and help answer any immediate questions you may have.

We will also continue to update our Summer Camp Updates and Camp Safety websites with the latest information.

We know you have many choices when it comes to your family and we truly appreciate your partnership. Our programs transform kids into better adults and the summer camp experience is a key component of that journey.

We are looking forward to an amazing summer camping season. Please stay safe and keep Scouting!
