Receives Meritorious Achievement Award

Local Scout Honored with Rare Award

Scouting is all about “being prepared,” and last June those words shifted from a motto to a reality for one Kansas City Scout.

Brady G., a Scout from Troop 492 in Independence, was out riding bikes with a buddy when his friend suffered a serious accident. His friend fell off his bike, resulting in a severe, deep laceration to his leg. In a situation where many would panic, Brady didn't skip a beat.

Drawing on his Scouting training, Brady immediately took control of the scene. He kept a level head to assess the injury and administered immediate first aid to the wound. He recognized the signs of shock and acted quickly to stabilize his friend. He then called for help and got professional medical assistance to the scene.

Because of Brady’s intervention and timely use of his Scout skills, a potentially tragic event was prevented. And thanks to his quick thinking, Brady was presented The Heart of America Council’s Meritorious Achievement Award at this year’s Blue Elk District Dinner.

This rare award is reserved for individuals who demonstrate exceptional "Scouting heroism and skill." This recognition is more than just an award; it's a testament to character under pressure. Congratulations, Brady!
