A Kansas Eagle Scout is receiving national recognition after being honored with the Environmental Protection Agency's President’s Environmental Youth Award. Archer Grier, an Eagle Scout from Troop 169 and Crew 2007, was recognized for his sustainable fish-breeding project at Cedar Lake in Olathe, Kansas.
A love of bass fishing inspired Archer to seek out a sustainable fisheries project. After learning of a fish kill at Cedar Lake, Archer teamed up with biologists from the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks and local Scouts to address the issue. Archer designed, constructed, and deployed a sustainable fish-breeding cube made from repurposed PVC pipe and drainage tubing, mobilizing others to join in the project. His efforts revitalized the lake’s aquatic ecosystem and sparked community interest in angling.

Thanks to his efforts, Archer was presented the prestigious national EPA award by Region 7 Administrator Jim Macy at the KDWP headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas. Congratulations Archer on this amazing accomplishment and for the setting the example for all Scouts!
