NRA Training

NRA, USA Archery, Hunter's Education Training Opportunities

Adult Scouters who are currently registered with Boy Scouts of America are permitted to become a certified NRA Instructor and/or USA Archery Instructor. Listed below are the courses available, location, date and time.  To register click on the course you wish to register for.  On the registration window you will choose the date.  For more information and a copy of one of the training fliers, go to 2018 NRA Shooting Sports Instructor Training flyer

 

NRA Basic Instructor Training

Sessions are held multiple times throughout the year.  We currently conduct most Basic Instructor Trainings in two parts (Tuesday and Thursday nights).  We will start at 6:00 p.m. each evening and wrap-up around 10:00 p.m. each evening for the two-part courses.  You must attend both evenings to complete Basic Instructor Training.  All two-part courses are held at Naish Scout Reservation.

We offer a one-day course to be held on February 17, 2018 and December 8, 2018 at the Heart of America Council Service Center.  This course will begin at 8:00 a.m. and wrap-up around 4:00 p.m.

Basic Instructor Training costs $20 and includes the cost of course materials only; no food is provided with this training.  This course is required before you take any firearm specific Instructor Training. 

The dates for 2018 are February 17, March 13 & 15, October 2 & 4, and December 8.

NRA Range Safety Officer Training

Sessions are held multiple times throughout the year.  We currently conduct Range Safety Officer Trainings in two parts (Tuesday and Thursday nights).  We will start at 6:00 p.m. each evening and wrap-up around 10:00 p.m. each evening.  You must attend both evenings to complete Range Safety Officer Training. All two-part courses are held at Naish Scout Reservation.

Range Safety Officer Training costs $45.00 and includes the cost of course materials only; no food is provided with this training.  There are no pre-requisites for this training. 

The dates for 2018 are February 17, March 13 & 15, October 2 & 4, and December 8.

NRA Firearm-specific Instructor Training

Sessions are held one to two times a year in the following disciplines: Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol, and Muzzle-loading.  This training runs over the course of two days; all day Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Sunday morning/early afternoon from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  You must attend the full weekend to complete Instructor Training.  All courses are held at Naish Scout Reservation.  The course fee of $45 covers the cost of course materials and lunch on Saturday.  Participants must complete Basic Instructor Training before participating in a specific Instructor Training course.

National Camp School Pre-Qualification NRA Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Training (3 day course)

This is a 3-day course that will begin at 8 a.m. on March 16 and end on March 18 at 3 p.m (you must attend the entire course). It will be held at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation. This course will include NRA Basic Instructor, Rifle Instructor, and Shotgun Instructor Training. 

The cost to attend this course is $125.00 and includes lodging (if needed) and all meals through lunch on Sunday. The deadline to sign up for this course is February 23, 2018. Please fill out the 2018 NCS form and email to cheri.williams@scouting.org. Once the NCS form is received it will be reviewed for approval.  Once approved you will be contacted for payment. 

 

USA Archery Instructor Training

The Level 1 & 2 USA Archery Instructor Training is held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.  Training will run from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday & Sunday. Participants must be at least 15 years of age to participate in this course.  All courses are held at Naish Scout Reservation.  The course fee of $60 and covers the cost of all course materials. 2018 dates for this training will be announced soon.

 

Kansas Hunter's Education Field Day and Testing Session

Missouri Hunter's Education

We are working with the Department of Conservation for the state of Missouri to determine opportunities we have to offer this training.  Once we have details, we will post information online about these courses here.
