John D. Hunkeler M.D.

John D. Hunkeler M.D., is considered a pioneer in the field of ophthalmology. As a youth, he attended Central High School in Kansas City and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1956 as a member of Troop 139 in Independence, Missouri. Dr. Hunkeler served as a captain in the United States Air Force from 1968-1970.
Dr. Hunkeler received his B.A. from Harvard University and is also a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Dr. Hunkeler served as Heart of America Council President from 2003-2004 and is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
Professionally, Dr. Hunkeler is a nationally recognized leader in his field. He is the founder of the Hunkeler Eye Institute which specializes in cataract and lens implant surgery and laser refractive surgery. Dr. Hunkeler has maintained a private practice in the metropolitan Kansas City area since 1973.
