Whitey was an Eagle Scout, and he earned the St. George Religious Award. He received the Scoutmaster's Key, Commissioner's Arrowhead, Commissioner's Key, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, and the NESA Silver Wreath. Whitey was a Vigil Honor member of Order of the Arrow, and was Wood Badge Trained.
Whitey served as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, and Explorer Post Advisor. Additionally, he served as a member of the District Training Staff for 15 years, and as a member of the Wood Badge Staff for 9 years. He had been an Assistant District Commissioner since 1950.
Whitey served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1972. He camped at Bartle since 1940, and served in a variety of staff positions over the years. Whitey was named the Cermonial Medicine Man in 1980, and received the Silver Coup in 1991.
