Chieftain Majestic Moose of Many Travels
Marc E. Elkins was called by the Council of Chieftains to become the 88th Presiding Chieftain of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at the 2017 Tribal Celebration.
As a youth in Manhattan, Kansas, Marc earned the Arrow of Light in Cub Scout Pack 281 and became Troop 73’s second Eagle Scout in 1973. Marc traveled on high adventure trips to Philmont and Boundary Waters with Troop 73. He was called to the Vigil by the Kidi Kidish Lodge of the Order of the Arrow as a youth in 1973 and served as Lodge Treasurer, and Vice Chief for two terms. He served on the Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil Ceremony teams.
Marc served as Scoutmaster for Troop 10 from 1999 through 2002. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Scoutmaster, Order of the Arrow Advisor; and helped lead high adventure trips hiking at Philmont, sailing and SCUBA diving the Bahamas, white water rafting in Colorado, and horse packing in the Gila National Wilderness, Arizona.
Marc served in the Trailhead District as District Commissioner from 2002 to 2005 and as a Unit Commissioner in the Trailhead and Soaring Eagle Districts from 2005 through 2016. He also served on the Santa Fe Trail and Trailhead District Training Teams and Nominating Committees and served as Trailhead’s Vice Chairman for Program and Health and Safety Chair. He has served on the faculty of the Heart of America Commissioners’ College since 2005 and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Continuing Commissioner Education.
Marc has served on the Council Board of Directors since 2008 and on the Council Executive Committee since 2011. He was Vice President for Administration in 2011 and Chairman of the Governance and Audit Committee from 2012 through 2016. He has served on the Council Strategic Plan Committees in 2011 and 2015.
Marc received the Council’s Silver Beaver Award in 2006 and the Trailhead District Award of Merit in 2002. He received the NESA National President’s Scoutmaster’s Award of Merit in 2002. However, he views his greatest recognition as an adult scouter to be the Philmont Staff Scholarship that was endowed in his name by the parents and friends of Troop 10 following his retirement as Scoutmaster in 2002.
Marc is a Life Member Tribal Guardian and has served on the Mic-O-Say By-Law and Paint & Elevations Committees.
Marc is also active in his community serving as Chairman of the Leawood Planning Commission and on the Board of Directors for the Leawood Community Foundation.
Professionally, Marc is Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Associate General Counsel for Cerner Corporation.
Marc and his wife, Jana, have an Eagle Scout and Firebuilder son and a daughter.
