David has served as Camp Director, Mic-O-Say Advisor, and Business Manager as well as other camp staff positions. David served as the Directing Medicine Man from 2004 - 2014.  At the 2015 Tribal Celebration, David was named Senior Medicine Man of the Tribe.

At the 2019 Tribal Celebration, David was called by the Council of Chieftains to become the 90th Presiding Chieftain of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. David is the first Tribesman called to be Chieftain who has also served as Directing Medicine Man and Senior Medicine Man.

As a youth, David was a Boy Scout in Troop 5 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and he served as a staff member at the Prairie Gold Scout Reservation. He has also served as a staff member at Philmont Scout Ranch and is serving on the Bartle Staff for his 29th summer.

As an adult, David serves as a committee member for two Troops; Troop 282 in Independence and Troop 10 in Leawood. He is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow.

He has received the Silver Beaver Award from the Council and Silver Coups from the Tribe. He is a Lifetime Tribal Guardian.

Professionally, Dave was a career teacher and coach in the Shawnee Mission School District.
