James J. Terry, Jr. — Chief Eagle From the Sun
On June, 19, 2000, James J. Terry, Jr. became the eighth Directing Chief of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
Mr. Terry is a native of Peterstown, WV, and a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina. He attained the rank of Life Scout and earned the God and Country religious award.
Jim began his scouting career in Charlotte, NC, served as District Executive, Exploring Executive and Exploring Director. He has served as Scout Executive in several different cities before being named the Scout Executive of the Heart of America Council, Kansas City, MO, in September, 1999. Those cities are High Point, NC, Columbus, GA, Richmond, VA, and Jacksonville, FL. He also served as the Assistant Regional Director for Operations of the BSA's Western Region for five years.
Jim received the Vigil Honor and the Distinguished Service Award from the Order of the Arrow and has been an Assistant Course Director for two Woodbadge courses. He's been on four National Scout Jamboree Staffs and directed five National Camping Schools.
Professionally, Jim has been a member of the steering committee for four Southern Region training conferences, was Vice Chairman of the 1994 Southern Region's Leadership Training Conference, and Chairman of the Central Region's 2002 Professional Training Conference. He has served as Course Director of many different BSA management courses and on national task forces for personnel and program, and served as chairman of the Computer Users Advisory Panel. He was selected by the BSA to be one of eight Scout Executives to attend Harvard Business School's "Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management" during the summer of 2000.
