KEY INFORMATION FOR JAMBOREE SCOUTS AND LEADERS

Jamboree Dates:

The Jamboree itself opens on Monday, July 26, 2010 and closes on Wednesday, August 4, 2010. The Heart of America Council contingent will actually depart on Wednesday July 21 and return on Thursday, August 5.

Troop Assignments:

There are four Jamboree troops in the Heart of America contingent. Normally all Scouts from a district will be assigned to the same Jamboree troop. Assignments may be adjusted as necessary to balance troop sizes.

Troop Information:  (Note: previously announced troop numbers will be changing about May 1.)

Each HOAC contingent troop has its own web page with information about the leadership, calendars, and activities specific to that troop.  Information that applies to all Scouts and troops will normally be posted on this page.  Troop information will be posted here as soon as new troop numbers are announced.

Costs for the Jamboree:

The estimated total cost for Scouts and leaders on the Heart of America Jamboree contingent trip is expected to be approximately $2,100, although it could change slightly. A final cost will be set in January, 2010, allowing for changes in travel costs.

Participants should also expect some out of pocket expenses for uniforms, pocket money for the Jamboree trip, souvenirs, and other miscellaneous expenses. Personal equipment lockers, day packs, travel duffels and special HOAC Jamboree patches are expected to be included in the price.  Scouts should check the personal equipment list for more information on personal equipment.

Uniforms:

Scouts and leaders will be required to wear the new official Scout uniform while traveling and at various Jamboree events.  The new Scout Shop at Camp Naish will offer a special discount off the cost of the new uniforms to contingent Scouts and leaders.  Information on how to receive the discount will be provided by the contingent troop leadership.

Fee Payment Dates:

A $100 deposit should have been paid as part of the initial application process.  Scouts who have not made that deposit should do so immediately.

Additional fee payments are due on the following schedule:

    June 30, 2009                $400

    September 30, 2009     $400

    December 31, 2009      $400

    March 31, 2010              $400

    June 30, 2010                $400

Billing statements will be sent to participants on the first day of the month due.  Payments are non-refundable unless a replacement Scout is identified and pays the total amount due. Any fundraising proceeds (popcorn sales, for example) will be credited to the Scout's account and will be shown on the billing statements.

Payments should be made payable to HOAC with "national jamboree" noted on the memo line and mailed to the HOAC office, 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.

Financial Assistance:

Scouts can offset the cost of the Jamboree trip by selling Scout popcorn. Special arrangements have been made so that Scouts will retain approximately 70% of each sale. Selling $3,000 worth of popcorn would cover almost the entire jamboree cost. Scouts can sell directly and turn in order sheets by July 15, 2009. Orders will be available for pickup and delivery about August 4. Also, Scouts can ask customers to order online with credit for the sale going to the Scout. All contingent Scouts should have received information on that process. Contact your contingent troop leaders or Mark Brayer at the Scout office if you do not have that information or need assistance with the online process.

Scouts may also apply for a campership through the council office. Applications for camperships should be filed as soon as possible.

Training Events:

Each contingent troop will hold meetings to get acquainted, plan activities, develop youth leadership, and prepare for the Jamboree experience. Additionally, all Scouts and contingent leaders should plan to attend the first shakedown weekend training campout at Camp Naish, October 9-10-11, 2009.

An additional training weekend campout will be held in April, 2010, also at Camp Naish.  Dates for that weekend will be confirmed soon.
