Heart of America Council Scouts, Garmin Gekos and Geo-caching

Scouts in the Heart of America Council are getting an upgrade in how they learn to navigate. Garmin donated 40 Geko GPS units to the Heart of America council for use at the H. Roe Bartle and Theodore Naish Scout Reservations. Scouts spent a recent Saturday morning in a local park with geo-caching enthusiast and Garmin Senior Media Relations Specialist, Jake Jacobson learning about geo-caching.

Geocaching is a high-tech, 21st century version of a scavenger hunt. Scouts plug in longitude and latitude coordinates into the device and try to find items placed by the person before them. There are nearly 1,000,000 geo-caching sites across the globe.
